Local fine food harvest dinner feature a great success!!

Greenbelt Local Food Ambassadors

On Saturday September 29, 2008, EcoSource celebrated the one year anniversary of its innovative Youth and Local Food program with a gourmet harvest meal celebration featuring fresh local Greenbelt foods. The meal was held at the Elliott House, a fine food restaurant and culinary arts school in Mississauga.  The tempting three course meal included delights such as a roast fennel flan, an heirloom tomato and dandelion salad, yogurt mint and garlic marinated broiled chicken, slow roasted leg of lamb, and a purple cauliflower, celeriac and potato lasagne. The ingredients for the event were harvested, prepared and served by youth from the Peel region, who worked with farmers and chef instructors to make this meal a delicious success!

Present at the event were trustees of both school Boards in the Peel region, teachers, parents and farmers.  The dinner provided an opportunity for representatives from schools and school Boards to meet and learn more about how they can increase the amount of local sustainable foods in their schools and school systems, as well as a chance to thank the farmers for this year’s harvest.

At the event EcoSource also announced a new formal partnership with Local Food Plus (LFP), an award winning non-profit organization that brings farmers and consumers to the table to share in the benefits of environmentally and socially responsible food production.  LFP certifies local farmers on the basis of producing local sustainable foods and will be working with EcoSource to provide local sustainable food options to Peel schools and school Boards.
