WasteWatchers
This year EcoSource has a new and exciting program
called WasteWatchers, which offers staff-supported waste audits and
accompanying waste reduction initiative to schools throughout Mississauga. This
is a great opportunity to launch a fun and engaging campaign, gain points
towards your EcoSchool certification, and take action to green your school - all with the assistance and support of an EcoSource staff member. EcoSource has been conducting waste audits in school communities for over 10 years. We have adapted the learning experience to elementary, middle, and secondary schools.
WasteWatchers consists of the following
program components:
- A dedicated EcoSource
coordinator to facilitate the program in collaboration with your school,
from September to June
- Two fully facilitated school waste
audits that allow for the creation of school-specific waste reduction
initiatives and program evaluation
- School-wide action
program designed to raise awareness and reduce waste production specific
to your schools waste output
- Professional
development workshops and opportunities for school staff and Eco Clubs
- Assistance
in the Waste Minimization pillar of Ontario EcoSchools
- Opportunities
for further environmental activities and programming through
participation in the City of Mississauga Green Chair Program (eg. tree
planting, litter clean-ups, anti-idling)
