Starting A GardenAt EcoSource we are committed to getting more gardens growing! The EcoSource Community Gardens and School Learning Gardens Program supports the development of community gardening projects by community members and organizations across the Region of Peel. We support community garden development through: - Educational programming, networking and garden-related events. - Municipal-land garden projects - Private-land garden partnerships - Consultation and support to independent community garden projects.
Educational programming through the EcoSource Community Gardens Program is offered free of charge to all community members. For information about upcoming workshops or events, please visit our workshops page or the MIAG events page, or phone the EcoSource office at 905-274-6222.
Interested gardeners are also invited to contact the Gardens Program Coordinator (spatel (at) ecosource.ca) to register for monthly community garden network emails with updates on garden related events and opportunities in the Region of Peel.
To date, we are working to support three independent community garden groups at Punjabi Community Health Services in Brampton, at the Village Keepers Child and Family Centre in Caledon, and with the Palgrave Environment Committee.
Groups thinking of undertaking an independent garden project are encouraged to contact us for more information! Individual consultations, resource suggestions, and workshops may be offered to community groups undertaking community gardening projects. Due to the seasonality of our gardening programs, we concentrate our supportive consultations from November - March to ensure that our current garden programs and partners receive the best support during the growing season. When we receive a high volume of requests for support we regret that we cannot assist all groups who ask for consultations and workshops - additional consultations and workshops outside of our current projects are offered where our programming schedule permits.
