Mississauga Urban Agriculture ProjectThe Mississauga Sustainable Urban Agriculture (MSURA) Project is led by EcoSource in partnership with the Eden Community Food Bank, supported by the City of Mississauga and the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). Through this project we are working to increase access to fresh healthy food in our community, and to connect students and community members with meaningful educational opportunities to learn about sustainable food production in Mississauga.
During the summer of 2010 we worked to develop demonstration plots at the Hillside Park Community Garden and at the Garden of the Valley in Mississauga Park.
Over the past fall and winter months of 2011, we have been working with students from the University of
Toronto Mississauga on four internship projects - focusing on the
science of sustainable agriculture, community food education and
understanding food security. In 2012 we are excited to focus on more work related to water cachement and irrigation techniques, community food security, and student food projects at the UofT Mississauga Campus.
We are always interested in supporting new student projects where time permits. If you are a student and interested in more information
about internship opportunities, please email urbanag(at)ecosource.ca or cbailey(at)ecosource.ca for details.
In 2011 we are excited to open the new Iceland Teaching Garden -- Community volunteers and students are welcome to to help with planting,
cultivating and harvesting food for the Eden Community Food Bank. See our events page for an event coming up soon!
