Garden of the Valley

About the Garden

Located at the Mississauga Valley Park (1275 Mississauga Valley Blvd) in south-central Mississauga, the Garden of the Valley is currently the only community garden on city parkland in Mississagua.

The garden was established by EcoSource in 2006, through a partnership with the City of Mississauga and Evergreen, and has flourished with support from the City of Mississauga, Wal-Mart Evergreen Green Grants, the Region of Peel and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Due to the garden's success, we expanded from 18 to 40 plots in the 2008 and 2009 season, more than doubling our size!

The Garden of the Valley offers individual plots for rent to residents of Mississauga.  Each plot is approximately 15' x 6' and is gardened organically without the use of any pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.  In addition to individual plots, the garden includes community plots that are gardened by volunteers and supply fresh organic produce to the local community.  In 2008, the bulk of our produce was donated to Our Place, the Peel Youth Shelter. In 2009, the bulk of our produce was donate to the Compass Food Bank. In 2010 we are looking forward to establishing demonstration plots for the MSURA project!

Each season we host free organic gardening workshops and garden events for all members of the community.  Please check our get involved page or the Mississauga Community Calendar to learn about upcoming events.

*All plots at the Garden of the Valley are currently full* We maintains an ongoing waiting list for those interested in participating. If you are interested in being added to the waiting list or volunteering in the garden for 2010 garden registration, please contact us at the EcoSource office: 905-274-6222 or email communitygardens (at) ecosource.ca

Volunteer Opportunities at the Garden

Community volunteers are invited to join us each week to help out in the garden with planting, tending and harvesting our community food-bank plots.  No garden experience is necessary!  Corporate volunteer projects, school visits and other community groups are welcome to arrange visits to the garden.  All garden volunteers are required to register in advance, so please let us know if you are interested in helping out!  Orientation sessions, registration and volunteer events can be organized by emailing communitygardens (at) ecosource.ca.
